A Letter from the Board of Directors

Dear RLC Parents and RLC Board Directors,

Welcome to our new parents, and welcome back to our returning parents! I am very excited about the upcoming 2011-2012 school year. We have expanded in leaps and bounds since the last school year ended in June. With Renaissance Learning Academy having moved to its new campus, we have taken over their previous location as our “RLC annex”, which will now be filled with daily with 32 RLC students and 15 staff members. This new space has allowed RLC to accept 38 new students this year, bringing our total number of students to 96.

We at RLC have high expectations for our parents because we know what we are offering: stable and educated staff; an independent curriculum for each child; excellent student/teacher ratios; a fine arts program that includes gymnastics, art, and music; and a beautiful campus that our children thrive in. For our parents, a volunteer commitment of 40 hours may sound daunting at first, but it is only 4 hours a month over the course of a 10 month school year. Not to mention the gratification you get back from giving your time at your child’s school.

Grant writing and school fundraising (through our SAC/PTO) is critical to maintaining our budget. Grant writing efforts raised more than $262,000 in additional funds last year. This is not typical, and although we would love to have this every year, we cannot count on it. Pam Minelli is the only grant writer for our school currently. She completed various grant writing trainings for parents last year, and would encourage more parents to be involved this year. In addition, we raised more than $68,000 in gifts and fund raising for RLC last year, which was quite an accomplishment. Our goal is to raise this much (if not more) again this coming school year.

The responsibilities of the RLC Board of Directors include regulating the rules needed for the effective operation and general improvement of RLC including: review and approval of policies and procedures of RLC and recommendation of expulsions if necessary; approval and maintenance of the operating budget; and handling conflict resolution issues or concerns by informal communications. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the RLC Board of Directors, please do not hesitate in contacting me.

As always, feel free to contact any of the officers or directors if you have questions, concerns, or would like to include an item on a meeting agenda. As a reminder, all RLC School Board meetings are open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to attend.

It is vital to the success of our school that all parents use their resources to make RLC the best for our children. We need the assistance of each and every family. Thank you in advance for making this year the most successful one for Renaissance Learning Center.

Sincerely,

Lisa Hauser

President of the RLC Board of Directors
